Tryin' To Guess Death Battle: Natsu Dragneel VS Portgas D. Ace

“Flames of the Fathers”

Natsu Dragneel
latest

Buckle the fuck down, because this is gonna be a trip.

Natsu Dragneel was born centuries before the story began to a loving couple and with an older brother named Zeref.  The four of them enjoyed a life in relative peace, however their happiness obscured the turbulent times they were in.  Dragons roamed the Earth, some living in harmony with humans while others hunted them as food.  One fateful day, a dragon attacked Natsu’s family, killing them all but Zeref.  Traumatized by this tragic event, Zeref vowed to restore his family by any means necessary, and took it upon himself to learn the deepest, darkest secrets of magic.

Eventually, Zeref was able to resurrect Natsu, but at a tremendous cost: he was only able to bring Natsu back as a powerful demon, whom he called Etherious Natsu Dragneel (or E.N.D.).  As E.N.D, Natsu was destined to become powerful enough to kill Zeref, who attained immortality via a curse as a result of his dark experiments tampering with the laws of nature.  Zeref longed for Natsu to reach this level of power, as he grew sick of his immortality and his dark magic killing everything he meets unintentionally.  Natsu was left in the care of Zeref’s good friend Igneel, the fire dragon king, in order to keep Natsu safe from Zeref’s dark magic.

Igneel soon became a father figure to the newly reborn Natsu, teaching him things that any father would teach their child: how to walk, how to talk, how to read and write, valuable life lessons, and, of course, deadly Fire Dragon Slayer Magic. Natsu would later meet four other children of dragons (Gajeel, Wendy, Sting, and Rogue) and became good friends with them.  During this time, Natsu and the other “Dragon Slayers” was also cared for by Anna Heartfilia, a Celestial Spirit mage whose clan was on good terms with peaceful dragons.

While Natsu was raised by Igneel, Acnologia, a Dragon Slayer turned actual evil dragon, led a campaign of carnage across the world.  Igneel and other dragons were gravely wounded in battle by Acnologia, so Anna and her clan (along with Zeref, though for his own insidious intentions) devised a plan to restore these dragons’ souls by sealing them within their human “children.”  They would then be sent them into the future (where there was extraordinarily high concentrations of magic power called Ethernano), which would restore them so they can defeat Acnologia once and for all.  Thus, Natsu was sent 400 years into the future through the Eclipse Gate in his sleep, though when he woke up he did not realize Igneel was resting within in as he was not told of the plan.  This led Natsu to believe Igneel abandoned him.

Natsu left the forest on a quest to find Igneel, where he was eventually recovered by Makarov, master of the legendary magic guild Fairy Tail.  Along with meeting many guildmates that would soon become his best friends, Natsu honed his Fire Dragon Slaying magic and fighting abilities to become known as “The Salamander.”  Along the way, Natsu would aid his guild in defeating many dark guilds and powerful enemies, and he would even later come to learn of his true history and his ties to the Dark Wizard Zeref.

Equipment

-His scarf, knitted by Anna as a gift and made out of Igneel’s molted scales
-Can resist fire and very high temperatures
-Can act as a shield against Zeref’s Black Magic (though this caused it to turn dark)

Skills and Abilities

Fire Dragon Slayer Magic

giphy.gif

As mentioned earlier, Natsu was taught Fire Dragon Slayer Magic by Igneel.  With it, Natsu is able to generate and control fire.  These flames are empowered by his emotions, so the angrier or more passionate Natsu becomes, the hotter his flames get.  Natsu can use his fire for a variety of purposes including:

In addition to being able to create fire, Natsu can eat large quantities of it as well.  Doing so replenishes his magic reserves and his stamina, though he can not eat his own flames to do this.

Lightning Dragon Slayer Magic

8e5beb54d1aee6c2fe3ba1e07756c0a1.jpg

By eating Laxus’ Lightning Dragon Slayer Magic, Natsu in turn was able to learn how to control lightning as well. By combining his fire and lightning abilities, Natsu enters what he calls Lightning Fire Dragon Mode. This combination of fire and lightning was strong enough to defeat Hades with an attack that carved a path through Tenrou Island.

Fire Dragon King Mode

a288df0726b8cedbacfb9eb3fe7785718f7ef246_hq.jpg

After he met the spirit of Igneel, Natsu was bestowed a great deal of magic power sealed into a tattoo. The residual magic power left by Igneel allowed Natsu to gain a new mode of power. This mode, called FDK Mode, is a huge boost to Natsu’s stats and fire manipulation. With it, Natsu could burn through Zeref’s Dark Magic spells (and this is the strongest mage in the series).  However, this increase in power has a huge drawback: it was only a one-time deal.  Although Natsu was unable to defeat Zeref and lost his power up anyway, he can still use a fragment of that power for temporary attacks. Even though not nearly as powerful as it once was, Natsu can tap into FDK Mode to generate attacks that can evaporate a large portion of a lake.

Dragon Force

4ec1807c12b8178642785c394095cac2d8d6b849_hq.gif

Dragon Force is a cheesy as fuck power metal band that makes rage inducing Guitar Hero songs power up attainable by Dragon Slayers that is said to be their ultimate state.  Natsu while in his Dragon Force Mode gains scales and fangs as well as a huge boost in magic power.  While initially Natsu required large amounts of outside sources of magic to obtain this form, he can now use its power just by getting angry enough.

Enhanced Senses

Z2QopqS.png

Natsu also has a great senses of smell and hearing, as befitting of a Dragon Slayer.  His sense of smell is so great that he can tell when people are not from a particular location, identify the lingering scent left by someone along with properly identifying sleeping pills, and use his sense of smell to track people far away.  As for his hearing, Natsu can hear distant conversations even when the sound of them are drowned out by thousands of cheering audience members, and can even hear a conversation a huge distance away before hitting his opponent with a sniping attack.  His senses are so great that even when fighting a FTE opponent, Natsu can use his other senses together to help predict his opponent’s movements.

Weaknesses

fairy_tail_533_16.jpg
There are a number of weaknesses Natsu has to worry about in a fight.  The most notorious one perhaps is his motion sickness.  Because Natsu’s senses are so enhanced, he can’t handle traveling in any man-made vehicle, whether it be boats, carriages, or even people.  Strangely, this weakness does not apply to Happy, his flying cat that flies Natsu on their journies.  By this logic, simply carrying Natsu would render him sick and unable to fight, though this is most likely a gag moment not to be taken too seriously.

A more harmful disadvantage is Natsu’s limited magic reserve.  Mages in Fairy Tail only have so much magic reserves to pull from, and once they are depleted the mage cannot perform any more spells.  In addition, using his various Modes and power ups can drain Natsu’s magic even faster.  The worst thing about this weakness is that Natsu’s stamina is directly tied to his magic reserves, so in addition to not being able to cast any more spells when he runs out, he will be too exhausted to go on.  Natsu can alleviate this weakness by consuming outside sources of fire he did not create, and it is harder to drain his Magic Power after he obtained power ups such as Second Origin, but when left without fire he can easily burn out after using too many of his powerful moves and attacks.

Natsu being a demon of Zeref also means that if anything were to happen to Zeref or his book, Natsu would be damaged and can very well die if they are destroyed too.

Lastly, though Natsu has shown to be a clever combatant who can notice minute details in an opponent’s fighting style and is a highly skilled and experienced fighter, he’s not always the brightest strategist.  He has let his stubbornness and fiery temper get the better of him too many times to count and he often blindly charges into a fight without thinking things through.

Portgas D. Ace
latest

Gol D. Roger was a man made into a legend. He had gathered up a crew of the most notorious individuals in history. He had sailed through the dangerous, otherworldly waters of the Grand Line. He had left behind the greatest hoard of treasure ever known, the One Piece. Even in death, he only inspired a whole new age of adventurers to take to the seas. Truly, Roger was a man who deserved the moniker of “Pirate King.”

As you would expect, though, a pirate of Roger’s caliber tended to make enemies on a similar scale. In his zealous pursuit for freedom and adventure, Roger had shaken up the entirety of the World Government.  While dying from an incurable disease, Roger turned himself in in order to ensure the safety of his famous crew.  In before he was executed, Roger urged Monkey D. Garp, hero of the Marines and Roger’s best frenemy, to care for his unborn child, knowing that the World Government will do all that was necessary to prevent Roger from living on in any potential offspring.

To deter the World Government, Portgas D. Rouge, Roger’s lover, carried her child for a full 20 months before giving birth to him.  She named the child Ace before dying in childbirth.  Though initially reluctant, Garp adopted Ace and left him in the care of his friend, the mountain bandit Curly Dadan of Dawn Island, to be raised in secrecy.  As Ace grew, he heard how loathed his infamous father was and how any potential offspring of the Pirate King should be put to death immediately.  This made the young Ace feel unwanted and worthless.  However, he eventually found a friend in Sabo, a runaway boy who shared his dream of gaining freedom by becoming a pirate.

Ace and Sabo would later meet the boy who would become Ace’s adopted brother, Garp’s grandson Luffy.  While they initially hated the younger boy tagging along with them wherever they went, they eventually became great friends to the point where all three of them saw each other as if they were real brothers.  However, their days of training, mischief, and thievery weren’t to last, as a series of events involving the Bluejam pirates and the neighboring Goa Kingdom left Luffy and Ace to believe Sabo tragically died.

Honoring the promise he made to his believed-to-be-dead friend, Ace set sail when he turned 17 to make his own as a pirate and become “more free than anybody.”  Ace would later eat the Mera Mera no Mi (or Flame Flame Fruit to you filthy gaijin) and form the Spade Pirates.  However, Ace’s band of pirates would be defeated and absorbed into the most powerful crew in the world: the Whitebeard Pirates.  Ace initially hated Whitebeard and attempted to assassinate him at every turn, but to no avail.  However, while serving in the crew Ace finally found the sense of belonging he hadn’t had since leaving behind Luffy in Foosha Village, and he even came to see Whitebeard as a father figure.  Ace would even gain the power and experience to become a Commander serving under Whitebeard.  However, after learning of his fellow Commander Thatch’s murder by the hands of his subordinate Edward D. Teach (AKA Blackbeard), Ace took it upon himself to bring Teach to justice.  It...didn’t end so well...

Mera Mera no Mi (AKA Flame-Flame Fruit)

latest

Ace’s Devil Fruit, the Flame Flame Fruit, is a Logia class Devil Fruit that allows him to create, control, and turn into fire.  As with other Logias, Ace’s fire is much more potent and destructive than normal fire, and he can utilize the flames he creates in many ways including:
-Generating massive fire blasts
-Igniting objects from a distance
-Manipulating fire into various forms such as spheres and spears
-Increasing the striking power of his physical attacks by imbuing them with explosive fire attacks
-Intangibility via attacks harmlessly passing through his fire body
-Regeneration
-Shapeshifting, via manipulating his own body which is also his element.  This can even be used to evade around attacks that would otherwise hit
-Attaining a sort of pseudo-flight by using fire to propel himself through the air

Conqueror’s Haki

a1Eba.png

Ace has shown the ability to use Haki, a sort of spiritual power totally not at all the same thing as Ki (hint: it totally is tho).  Specifically, Ace has shown to possess the knowledge of and the ability to use use Conqueror’s Haki, the rarest form of Haki that only one in a million people are born with the willpower to use.  While this is the most hyped version of Haki in the story, it as of the release of this blog has only been shown the ability to KO hundreds and even up to thousands of fodder at one just by the user’s mere presence.

While literally every other character with Conqueror’s Haki was shown or implied to be capable of at the very least one of the other two versions of Haki, Ace never displayed any indisputable use of them.  Thus, for the purposes of this blog, we are only assuming he can use this form of Haki.

-He first displayed Conqueror’s Haki at 10 years of age, when he knocked out anyone in his surroundings with a weaker will.

Strength / Attack Potency

giphy.gif

As a child prior to receiving his powers:
-Always beat Luffy in a fight when they were kids, despite Luffy getting 50 tries a day (only later gaining his devil fruit abilities, whereas Luffy already had them)
-Snapped a tree in half
-Displayed superhuman physical attacks as shown when he dispatched the large creatures he met in the forests surrounding Dadan’s home
-Defeated Captain Bluejam alongside Dadan

After eating the Flame-Flame Fruit:
-His mere presence causes it to stop snowing in Drum Island (calculated to require 27 megatons of energy)
-Displays great range by destroying 5 large pirate ships with a single Flame Fist attack
-Pierces Blackbeard with his flame spears
-His fighting skill even without his Devil Fruit is impresses Van Augur
-Fought off a number of guards after enduring days of torture and while wearing Seastone handcuffs that weaken him and turn off his Devil Fruit powers
-At least on a similar level of power to fellow Whitebeard Commanders Marco, Jozu, and Vista.  These characters could hold their own against powerful characters like Kizaru, Aokiji, and Mihawk, respectively.
-Matched the power of Admiral Aokiji, despite being severely weakened due to being in Level 6 of Impel Down for weeks, who is capable of:
-Freezing a path between 3 islands lasting an entire week.
-Freezing entire tsunamis (that’s 1.9 gigatons of TNT)
-Freezing Marineford bay (that’s 1.2 gigatons TNT)
-Fighting Admiral Akainu for 10 days straight. Permanently altering the climate of the island they fought in. Akainu himself managed to tank a punch from and severely injure the strongest man in the series, Whitebeard (though he was no longer in peak condition). Whitebeard being capable of making earthquakes strong enough to shake islands miles away (generating the equivalent of 1.17 petatons of TNT)
-Intercepting and stopping Doflamingo mid-attack casually. Doflamingo himself can outspeed Admiral Fujitora’s meteor (travelling at Mach 2335.5)  and contend with Gear Fourth Luffy.  Base Luffy is capable of tanking Fujitora’s Ferocious tiger (1.49 Gigatons)
It’s also worth noting that Sabo (who ate the same Devil Fruit as Ace, but is far less experienced with it) can also tank this attack and generally keep up with Fujitora.  Sabo can also:
-Cause massive explosions of fire

Also, Chinjao in his prime was capable of splitting ice continent with a headbutt (the equivalent of 84.66 Gigatons of TNT), yet Garp (in his prime) was still capable of denting his head in with a single punch, knocking him out and permanently removing his head spike, with relative ease.  Ace scales to Chinjao due to the ease of which Garp took Chinjao out, which is a lowball seeing as how there’s no reason to think Garp could take out a Whitebeard Commander, who can match the power of Admirals, THAT easily.

Speed

Ace_Fire_Gun.gif

-Can leap over 5 large pirates ships standing side by side
-Reactions scale to Doflamingo’s hand swipes, which are massively hypersonic

Durability/Endurance

8ISG112utmgdW.gif

-The intangible and regenerative nature of Ace’s Devil Fruit means he is very hard (if not impossible) to hurt without exploiting its weaknesses
-Fought with the Fishman Karate master Jinbei for 5 days straight, even with Jinbei potentially having an advantage with his water manipulating abilities. It’s worth noting that even in a weakened state, Jinbei can still block a punch from Akainu
-Gets thrown through multiple walls with no injury without the need to use his Logia abilities
-Despite having his Devil Fruit ability taken away, still withstands multiple blows from Blackbeard who is in turn capable of matching Ace’s fire attacks
-Could withstand days of torture in Impel Down, which included being “baptized by boiling water” (which he didn’t even flinch during)
-Survived and quickly got up after being badly burned by Akainu’s magma punch after their initial clash

Goodnight+sweet+prince+_68afd79f10d7a3541c87aa3f0ffa5741.png

Despite Ace’s pseudo-intangibility, his Devil Fruit has a number of weakness that allow opponents to circumvent it.  For one, Ace can’t swim at all, and he loses all his strength of more than half of his body is submerged in standing water.

His intangibility can also be cancelled out by Haki, a supernatural force tied to a user’s spirit that allows them to touch a Logia’s real body and inflict damage to it.  Logically, any similar concept in other works of fiction would work in a similar manner.

Because Devil Fruits operate on a concept of superiority, opponents with powerful enough magma based abilities will be able to overpower Ace’s attacks and can burn him despite his Logia intangibility.  The reason this is a thing is because by One Piece logic, magma > fire.  This was ultimately how Ace was killed by Admiral Akainu.

Lastly, Ace is known to have a fiery temper that can backfire on him.  While he became more level-headed as he grew older, he becomes enraged whenever anyone does anything to insult his crew or his captain.  This is why when urged not to go by Whitebeard, Ace left in a rage to track down Blackbeard after he killed Thatch.  It’s also how Akainu goaded Ace into fighting him after he insulted Whitebeard, which sealed his fate and earned him a hole in the chest.

So, before we get into it. You may have noticed that Meddadius isn’t in this one, the reason for this being that he was busy with stuff. So I got Metabro to replace him temporarily. Also, we didn’t do the last one. Also, we’re still working on Travis vs Jack. Medd literally just needs to finish writing like 2 paragraphs, so expect it in 6 months.

Anyway:
Despite all the discussion surrounding it, this matchup is actually really freaking straightforward. So let’s break it down shall we:
Ace scales to faster speeds both directly and indirectly, therefore he is gonna be getting the first hit before Natsu can do anything about it. Ace then hits Natsu with more literal firepower than anyone in Fairy Tail has shown thus far, killing him. The end.

.
.
.

Ok, fine:

Firstly, Natsu’s fire resistance is just that: resistance.  Ace’s fire is far stronger than anything he’s gone against and therefore there’s no basis to assume he’d be able to survive it. Same goes if he tries to eat it, except for him to do that he has to, you know, grab the stuff and shove it his mouth. Firstly, if he’s not faster than his opponent he can’t do that.

Secondly, he’s touching the attack, you know, that thing that we just established can hurt him.

Furthermore, even if we assume that they are of comparable speeds (for some reason) and assume Natsu’s fire immunity allows him to deal with attacks tens of times more powerful than anyone in Fairy Tail, he still loses. Ace isn’t gonna keep using fire if his opponent is immune to it, which means he’ll have to rely on a hand-to-hand fight.
And he still wins there, because his durability is comparable to his firepower via scaling from Blackbeard and his physical damage attacks can be amped by his fire via making weapons out of them, not to mention even without his Devil Fruit powers he should still be comparable in strength to other characters in One Piece that are still far stronger than Natsu.

Additionally, Ace has a massive advantage in stamina (fighting for 5 days straight vs Natsu’s rather limited magic supply) and in his regeneration (allowing him to heal himself at any time), which makes his victory rather clear cut. I could go more in-depth, but I’ve ranted for long enough, so instead, here’s a burger:

Metabro

62394.jpg

And as the resident Juan Piss expert, I WILL go into more in-depth.

So for the record, I’ve read both One Piece and Fairy Tail and know both these characters quite well.  And just because I am a curious person, I’ve lurked on a number of sites (NF, reddit, YouTube, etc.) to see the general opinions of who would win this fight.  I feel a lot of misunderstandings are being made for both their capabilities.  This is primarily due to one simple fact: Natsu has had far more exposure in his story than Ace has.  We know what Natsu is capable of because he’s the main character.  There’s more feats for him.  In contrast, Ace, being a supporting character, has not had that luxury, so a lot about his power his implied.  It’s the classic tons of feats vs relying on scaling that people love oh so much.  But if you wish to accurately find the results of this fight, you have to let go of those preconceived notions you have of these characters.  Learn to see things from a VS debating perspective and ignore high quantities of bit feats while also learning the value of accurate and appropriate scaling.  And it’s because of the of quality scaling surpassing over quantity bit feats that Ace wins without too much difficulty.

For starters, Ace has higher DC.  Much higher in fact, and the only feats that bring Natsu close rely on some honestly faulty calcs (assumed timeframes for KE feats, misinterpreting plot details, not understanding how certain abilities work, etc.).  This leaves Ace at island level vs Natsu’s at best city to small island level (and even then that’s with some honestly generous assumptions and calcs).  Even taking Natsu’s many powerups and forms into account do not prove Natsu can match even a casual Aokiji or Chinjao’s headbutt.  And although people argue that this only applies to his Devil Fruit, in-story examples of Logias tanking similar levels of energy to their DCs prove this split DC argument simply does not exist outside of weak or inexperienced Logia like Caribou.
Speed is a similar case.  Ace scales to Doflamingo and other high tiers, which makes his reactions around quadruple digit mach speeds.  Natsu has more consistent feats in the triple digit machs, giving Ace an ample advantage in reaction times.  Of course Irene’s meteor feat will be brought up, but the time frames used for nearly every calc of it were really hard to believe, with some assuming as low as ten seconds for the meteor to travel from space (even though it took at least a minute to reach Erza after reaching the atmosphere, since normal people were able to notice it approaching and have a full conversation about it).  Using similar logic for Fujitora’s meteors would mean Ace scales to sub-relativistic feats, meaning the best case scenario for Natsu using frankly dishonest logic would only make them both equivalent.

Now comes the fun part of the debate.  Even if Natsu and Ace were equivalent in DC and strength, even if Natsu and Ace had similar reaction speeds, none of it matters because of Ace’s hax.  Many Natsu supporters have been trying to wrap their heads around just how Natsu can get through Ace’s intangibility to the point where the attempts I’ve seen on some sites can only be described as mental gymnastics.  The sad truth for these people is that, no, there is no way Natsu can reliably hurt Ace.  So let’s go through these methods:

-Magic is not Haki, so he can’t touch him that way
-Drowning him assumes water is nearby, Natsu could get him in it and the first place, and Ace wouldn’t just vaporize or fly over it
-Natsu can’t surprise attack Ace before he can turn into fire because Ace is a very experienced Logia, and similarly experienced Logias can turn into their elements even while caught completely off guard (assuming that attack wasn’t covered with Haki).  Plus Ace is too fast and too skilled to be caught unaware so easily, especially against a hot-headed guy like Natsu
-Natsu’s fire is not hotter than Ace’s fire or Akainu’s magma, so he can’t burn him anyway.  Ace was killed by Akainu because his Devil Fruit was an inferior element than his, simple as that.  Even then Akainu’s magma was hot enough to vaporize steel without even touching it, instantly evaporate a large amount of more durable than normal ice, permanently alter half an island’s geography and climate, and was even calculated to be hotter than the surface and nearly as hot as the core of the Sun.  Natsu melting rock is not going to match any of that
-Natsu being able to touch fire as though it’s a tangible object due to him being a Fire Dragon Slayer mage matters little when what he would be touching isn’t anything but fire.  He didn’t harm Atlas Flame, a dragon with a similar intangibility due to having a fire body, when they fought.  In fact, Atlas Flame was merely irritated by the fact Natsu wouldn’t get off him.  He never showed damage or pain by Natsu being able to grab onto him.  Ace on the other hand is a flesh and blood human that can turn his body into fire, but doing anything to that fire doesn’t harm him.  Punching Ace’s fire body doesn’t mean anything when it’s not his actual body that’s being touched.  It’s fire, not skin
-Natsu can’t hurt him with Lightning Dragon Slayer Magic either, as Ace would just phase through that as well and reform

Lastly, the option everyone is predicting because it’s the most obvious solution that only requires a surface level understanding of either character to make: that Natsu would just eat Ace when he turns into fire.  Most people stop at this point and call the match there without further thinking, but that’s simply not an effective option when thought about rationally for more than 30 seconds.  First off, yes, Ace could be instantly converted into magic power if he reaches Natsu’s stomach without doing anything about it.  IF he reaches Natsu’s stomach.  Ace can always turn solid some time before being “digested,” ensuring that Natsu explodes like a water balloon (or like Dan Hibiki).  And that’s the optimistic scenario.  Ace has massively hypersonic reactions, meaning he would certainly react in time and turn solid before Natsu actually eats him.  Ace also rarely fully turns into fire.  The only parts of him that do are the ones damaged by an attack, so if you punch his face, only that part of his face turns into fire while the rest remains solid.  All this taken into effect means the chances of Natsu eating Ace are slim to none.

So how does the fight go down?  Simple.  They each shoot flames at each other for a while.  Working with the erroneous assumption Ace’s fire attacks would be ineffective against Natsu and wouldn’t harm him despite being proven to be much stronger, this means they soon realize none of their standard options will work.  Natsu is unaffected and can just eat fire to replenish his stamina.  Ace is also unaffected and is given more fire to control.  So the fight becomes a hand-to-hand melee, in which case Ace has the massive (and unfair) advantage.  Even with Natsu’s skill, Ace is just flat out much stronger than Natsu via scaling and just as skilled (if not more) as shown by his accomplishments in the New World (where weak Logias reliant on their powers go to get wrecked) and being approved by Whitebeard as powerful enough to lead part of his crew as a Commander under him.  On top of this, every punch Natsu would connect with would either go through Ace or just touch his fire body as though it were solid, still leaving Ace unharmed.  Sure, Natsu could keep himself in the fight by gaining back staminia via fire eating (whether by eating surrounding fire or grabbing chunks of fire out of Ace’s fire body), but that will only prolong the inevitable.  One Piece levels of stamina will eventually be too much for Natsu, who’s never had to fight for literally five days straight as Ace has.  Ace would at some point come up with a solution to avoid Natsu from eating more fire, at which point would be the end of the fight.

And remember, that’s assuming Natsu wouldn’t be affected by Ace’s flames.  The more likely outcome would be for Ace to incinerate Natsu when their fire attacks clash.

It’s a lot to take in for sure, but the simple fact of the matter that despite Natsu has far more showings, far more exposure, and far more of a larger role in his series means little when Ace is much stronger, faster, more durable, has much more stamina, and has in his possession a far greater ability that keeps him completely unharmed throughout the whole fight from anything Natsu has at his disposal.  Logically, Ace could just win without any fire abilities at all and defeat Natsu just by relying on his physical capabilities.  That’s the difference in power Ace scales to.

The numbers don’t lie, and they spell “disaster” for Natsu in Death Battle.
